Description
Nursing RN program is 87 credit-hour curriculum within 15 + months designed to provide graduates with the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and abilities needed to practice safely and effectively as an entry level graduate nurse with the eligibility to take the NCLEX-RN licensure exam. This program is available in two formats: A daytime program consisting of four semesters and an evening program consisting of six semesters and a summer session.
Forty students are admitted to the daytime program twice a year in June and December. Instructional hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00am – 3:00 pm; clinical times may vary from 6:45am to 7:15pm (Monday-Sunday). Forty students are admitted to the evening program every year and a half. Evening classes are conducted Monday through Friday from 5:00 – 9:00 pm; with some Saturday and Sunday clinical hours varying from 6:45am to 7:15pm. Times for all class and/or clinical sessions are subject to change.

Assessment is an integral part of the educational process at Sharron Nursing Academy, accurate feedback is an important tool in continuously improving the institution’s nursing programs. Students can expect to participate in assessment activities prior to entry into programs, within specific courses and following program completion for specific fields of study.

Program Outcomes
- Provide nursing care within the scope of the ethical and legal responsibilities of registered nurse.
- Utilize the nursing process to identify basic needs of the client throughout the lifespan for health promotion and maintenance, or when biological, spiritual, cultural, and psychosocial needs are not being met.
- Provide safe and skillful therapeutic care in simple nursing situations based on knowledge of biological, spiritual, cultural, and psychosocial needs of the client throughout the life span.
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships with the client, the client’s family, and members of the inter-disciplinary health care team.
- Demonstrate responsibilities of the registered nurse as an individual who collaborates within the healthcare system and the community.

HSC0003 Basic Healthcare Worker (4 Credits)
The course is designed to explore issues related to basic work as a healthcare assistant and emphasis is placed on the nursing process, cultural and spiritual awareness, communication, data collection, performance of basic healthcare skills, and documentation. Principles of basic nursing skills are introduced.
MAT1100 Intermediate Algebra (3 Hours)
The course is designed to move you beyond basic math and prepares you for statistics and analyzing data information.
ENG1100 English Composition (3 Credits)
The course is designed to explore issues related to an essential tool in literacy, education and communication, it allows you to covey ideas, feeling, emotions, opinions and political views with many forms of communication.
HUN 1206 Nutrition (3 Credits)
The student will identify, describe, and discuss the various nutrients essential to promoting growth and maintenance of the human body. The clinical aspects of nutrition are explored through various therapeutic diets as well as through introductory nutritional assessment skills.
DEP2004 Human Development (3 Hours)
The course provides an introduction to physical, cognitive, emotional and social aspects of human development throughout the life span. It emphasizes developmental processes beginning with conception and continuing throughout childhood, adolescence, adulthood, later life and death. The course focuses on developmental processes, cultural influences and other factors that make each individual unique. This course takes an interdisciplinary approach toward human development that is based on science and applied toward the goal of solving important human problems.
PSY1010 Introduction to Psychology (3 Credits)
A study of the scientific basis of human behaviors, and the factors which influence human development. The course provides an overview of the history and major issues of psychology, including learning and perception, personality theories, abnormal behavior, motivation and emotion, human development, and social psychology.
HUM4474 Cultural Diversity (3 Credits)
An introduction to the basic concepts of sociology, including organizational behavior systems development, cultural diversity, and human social institutions.
MCB2001 Elements of Microbiology with Lab (4 Hours)
Survey of microorganisms in terms of physiology, biochemistry, genetics, and diversity with emphasis placed on prokaryotes and eukaryotes causing human diseases. Methods of their control including physical, mechanical, chemical, chemotherapeutic, and role of the immune system are discussed.
BSC1090 Anatomy and Physiology I LAB (4 Credits)
This course focuses on the normal structure and function of the human body as a living organism and the relationship of its parts. Disease processes are discussed. The course begins with basic cellular structure and function, then progresses through these selected body systems: integumentary, skeletal, nervous, muscular, and senses. Correct medical terminology is emphasized. A structured laboratory experience is included. This course will include out-of-class work such as reading and writing assignments, practice and practical application assignments, and projects.
BSC1094 Anatomy and Physiology II Lab (4 Credits)
Anatomy and Physiology Laboratory provides opportunities to observe various anatomical parts and to investigate physiological phenomena. The student will relate specimens, models, microscope slides, and the whole body to information learned in lecture and read about in the textbook.
NUR1022 Foundations of Nursing (4 Credits)
The course utilizes the nursing standards of practice based on principles of biology, psychosocial, spiritual and cultural to meet the needs of clients throughout the lifespan. Emphasis is placed on basic nursing skills, patient safety and therapeutic communication. Concepts and skills are enhanced in subsequent courses.
NUR1023 Foundations of Nursing Clinical (3 Credits)
The course explores the art and science of nursing in this clinical course. Emphasis is placed on the nursing process, cultural and spiritual awareness, communication, data collection, performance of basic nursing skills, and documentation. Principles of safe medication administration are introduced.
NUR1140 Pharmacology I (3 Credits)
The course introduces the principles of pharmacology, drug calculations, and the effects of selected medications on the human body. The nursing process is used as the framework for ensuring safe and effective nursing care for clients across the lifespan.

NUR2214 Medical Surgical Nursing II (3 Credits)

An emphasis is placed on critical thinking and clinical decision-making skill development. AMH2010 American History (3 Credits)
This course is a history of art from the Renaissance to the Modern period. The concepts, historical themes and social/cultural influences on the art and architecture of the periods will be studied. Students will analyze the design and artistic concepts common to all artwork and will also cover the external themes and influences that shaped art at various points in history and across cultures and provide us with a window onto those cultures.
NUR1520 Mental Health (3 Credits)
The course explores basic concepts and trends in mental health nursing. Therapeutic modalities and client behavior management are discussed. Emphasis is placed on using the nursing process and meeting the basic human needs of the mental health client.
NUR2420 Maternal Child Nursing (3 Credits)
The course focuses on pre- and post-natal maternal nursing care, as well as the care of children from infancy to adolescence. Emphasis is given to normal reproduction and frequently occurring biological, cultural, spiritual and psychosocial needs of the child-bearing and childrearing family.

The clinical applies concepts from Maternal Child I. Emphasis is placed on the nursing process and meeting the basic needs of the maternal child client.

HSC1531 Medical Terminology (3 Credits)
The course is designed to learn the language used to describe components of processes of the human body, medical procedures, diseases, disorders, and pharmacology.
NUR1960 NCLEX Review I (3 Credits)
The course is designed to continue to prepare you for the NCLEX RN exam to determine if you meet the entry-level education needed to begin practicing as a practical nurse.
